Hanging Pots: Make Your Home a Green Oasis
If you're a plant parent, your home is probably a small jungle and you're always eyeing new pots. But what happens when you start running out of space for new posts? You seek the next best thing and start to hang pots on the ceiling. Jokes aside, you don't have to have a home full of plants and run out of space to get indoor hanging pots. These look so great and will give a new vibe to any room or even balcony. There are a few things to think of when purchasing such pots such as their weight, size, what materials they are made of and if they are strong enough to keep the plant safe inside.
Before you get hanging pots for indoor plants, here are a few things to consider.
Mix & Match Styles
Many people are a bit wary when it comes to mixing and matching styles, especially if their home is in a certain style. Don't be afraid to buy hanging pots in various styles, because they will only enrich your space. There is nothing wrong to have rustic hanging pots in a contemporary home where the rest of the pots are modern, for example. You can make a combination of a modern plant and rustic rope and it will look amazing I promise.
Modern, Rustic, Contemporary
Modern plants are considered those that are made of materials other than ceramics. For instance, you can choose a glass pot if you're looking for something sleek to match your minimalist modern living room. But adding a rustic rope and hang it on the ceiling won't disrupt the concept of your home. Rustic pots on the other hands made of ceramics let's say can look perfect while hanging on a black brass wire. Consider the fact that the plant itself will give liveliness to this whole combination. Contemporary pots made of concrete or metal would look excellent if you choose a leather hanging holder; there is no chance that this planter won't steal the attention and become the centrepiece in your living room or any other room.
Materials
Various materials are a go-to when it comes to pots, but hanging pots, you should be careful. Not every material is suitable for this purpose, since some may be quite heavy, and may damage the ceiling.
Glass, Brass, Wood, Ceramics
In most cases hanging pots for indoor plants are not too large. They are mainly suitable for smaller plants that are growing downwards (such as ivies, ferns or spider plants), and hang lovely over the pot, or for some tiny flowers such as succulents. The best options for these pots are glass, brass, ceramics or wood. None of these is too heavy and yet it will give the flower a nice place to live, without suffocating or damaging the roots. Since these are interior pots, you can get to choose lovely and cute pots that have wonderful design and decoration that can easily match the style of your home. Not that you can't get the same with other materials, but somehow these are far easier to use when making pots on the smaller side. You can't achieve the same adorable little almost jar-like pot made of glass with cute decor with concrete for example.
Make Sure Your Ceiling is Strong
We came to the most important part - the ceiling. It has to be strong enough to endure hanging anything on it. Of course, there won't be a problem if you hang a couple of small pots with light plants in them. This is why the materials should not be too heavy. Avoid pots made of clay, concrete or other heavy metals that will hang even more when you put them to the ground and the flower itself. Keep in mind that you will water this plant and water too will add additional weight. Large plants and heavy pots aren't suitable for this purpose, especially if the ceiling isn't strong enough. No matter how strong hooks you choose, they might not be able to endure the weight.
What Plants Are Great for Hanging Pots
As I mentioned above, you can choose plants that aren't too heavy. Go for feathery ferns or ivies that tend to grow small leaves and to grow downwards. Not only they look amazingly decorative, but they don't put any extra weight as well. You can choose super small plants like succulents that don't tend to grow too much. English Ivy, Devils Ivy, Spider plant, Heartleaf philodendron or Boston fern are excellent options, but of course, you can choose any other plant. It's a nice idea to plant spring flowers such as daisies, hyacinths or any other small flower. But, you don't have to choose flowers at all; you can plant herbs for example and hang the plant in your kitchen or your bathroom.
