Wall Art: Add Interest and Texture to Your Walls
Empty walls are like an empty soul. Every home deserves some pieces of arts, even if it's something you have created.
Wall art can be anything that you want from various shaped mirrors to big oil paintings, to personalized art, contemporary paintings and so on.
And while many people believe that art is something expensive, it's not always the case. In fact, you can find many pieces made by artists that are quite affordable.
Your artwork for home decor should give personality to space, and make you feel pleasant and good. It should also create a story and complete the look of the room. If you aren't sure how to do this, here are a few ideas for you.

Create Flow & Set the Mood
When choosing wall art it's important that it sets the mood in the room. What does this mean? For instance, if you want wall art decor that shows one "story" you can choose several pieces that complement each other. Your master wall art painting can be the largest and you can get a few smaller ones that will complete that 'story'.
You should also think about setting the mood. This mainly depends on your preferences but also your room decor style. Some people want classic pieces, others will choose modern and contemporary art, minimalism, boho art and so on. Maybe you're looking for an inspirational art? It should set the room's mood from the moment you look at the art. For instance, if you're choosing art for your dining room it should be something pleasant, in brighter colours, instead of an obscure art.
Make a Gallery Wall
If you aren't a fan of having paintings all over the room, you can dedicate one wall to it. It would be a lovely way to add personality to this room. Creating a gallery wall is quite easy, all you need to choose which wall it will be and hang the art on it. It could be a hallway wall, or the wall at the stairs, the wall above the fireplace, just anything. Hang a large centre piece and add smaller paintings around it. Or you can hang as many smaller paintings as you want. Some people decide to go with two to three larger pieces. It's all up to you.
Paintings
The most common artwork for home decor are paintings and can vary in techniques, colours, whether they're modern or traditional and so on. Although many people today decide to go with modern art that includes digital prints, if you're an old soul who loves oil paintings you should stick to that. Paintings give warmth to the walls, but also they tell a story without even speaking. Your paintings don't have to be classic, or modern, or minimalist, they could be anything you want - portraits of your loved ones, nature, still, nature, whatever you want on your walls.

Murals
If you want something bolder, and something that speaks volume and gives the soul and personality to your home, you should try a mural. It can be hand-painted which will require an artist, but you can also go for something more practical such as a wallpaper or wall covering.
A mural can turn any old room into a new one in no time. Be sure what you want to see on your walls for some time and go for it.
Contemporary & Traditional Wall Art
When it comes to contemporary art, you probably think of minimalist art with two colours, shapes that aren't easy to understand. Compared to traditional wall art that is usually seen as big oil paintings with portraits of old people or animals or horses and so on.
In fact, contemporary and traditional art can be a simple painting with your favourite quote. Or it can be a print of your favourite animal in black and white.
Traditional art on the other hand can be anything from Chinese, Indian, Native American, or renaissance motives. But also, it can be a simple still nature framed with a heavy old frame.
Match the wall art with the design in your home. Play with the colours, frames, styles and materials. You could be surprised that you can create art even with things you already have at home. For instance, you can create a centrepiece with contemporary art by hanging interesting plates you no longer use.
Or, you can frame old photos of your family in cool and unusual frames and make a gallery wall.
Personalized Art
Some people prefer having personalized art on their walls. This is a way for them to get their daily inspiration or boost. For instance, you can get your favourite quote framed in a cool minimalist frame. It can be a small piece hanged in your bedroom, home office or kitchen or it can be a large piece hanged in your hallway so you can get your boost the moment you leave your home.
If you aren't into quotes you can get your favourite selfie painted in a portrait. Anything you like can be personalized in a form and way that you like.

Do’s & Don’ts
Do hang your art in every room in your home, including your bathroom, dining room or even in the laundry room. Be sure to use picture-hanging hooks instead of nails, since they can endure the larger weight.
If you feel like doing something different, you can learn the artwork against the wall (it can be placed on the floor, shelves, sofa and so on).
Keep in mind that art doesn't have to be expensive; you can find some pretty decent and affordable pieces online, in old antique stores, or even create it yourself.
Avoid hanging small pieces on a big wall. Call another person to help you hang your art (so you can have it hanged straight and properly). Don't hang one big piece in one area and the other smaller pieces in another area. Your walls should be balanced.
